Daily Journal staff report

The winners for the 39th annual Gallery of Trees: Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child have been announced. From Dec. 1 through Dec. 30, visitors were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite trees while visiting the Kankakee County Museum.

More than 30 Christmas trees that adorned the museum were decorated by local nonprofit organizations.

First place received a prize of $100, second place received $50 and third place received $25. Trees were voted for in adult and children's categories.

Bishop McNamara High School won first place in adult voting with their "Over the Hills and Through the Woods to Grandmother's House We Go," tree adorned with red berries, snow-covered branches and pine cones, and much more to attribute to the woodland theme.

Second- and third-place prizes for adult voting went to the Kankakee Kultivators and Woman's Club of Kankakee.

First place in children's voting went to the Kankakee Kultivators and their all blue Christmas tree strongly resembling the Cookie Monster. Their tree was complete with large googly eyes, a giant open mouth and a half-bitten cookie to bring the cookie-crazed character to life for the holidays.

Second- and third-place prizes in children's voting went to Kankakee Trinity Academy and Bickford Senior Living.
