City joins bike-share program

KANKAKEE — Kankakee officially is part of the metro region’s first-ever bike-share program, which is set to begin by July 1.

By a 13-0 vote Monday, the Kankakee City Council approved the two-year, $6,000 expense to be part of the bike-rental program.

The cost to establish a five-bike kiosk in downtown Kankakee actually is $18,000 for two years. However, the Kankakee Development Corporation and the Kankakee Public Library also are committing $6,000 for the first two years.
